The School of Dentistry School hosted a Saudi Dental College UK study tour headed by representatives from the National Commission for Academic Accreditation and Assessment (NCAAA). There were delegates from 12 of the 18 Colleges of dentistry in Saudi Arabia, as not all could make the trip. The aim was to learn about our quality assurance systems and accreditation in the hope of developing further collaboration and partnership opportunities. The visit was organised by the British Council and the delegation visited four dental schools, Manchester, Leeds, Central Lancashire (UClan) and Birmingham. The party did arrive in the UK when we were experiencing some of the worst weather in recent years. In spite of the this, they received a warm welcome by staff and students. Prof Walmsley greeted the delegation and there were introductions and presentations from Prof Lumley, Prof White and Dr Milward. The Saudi Arabian delegation also provided background information to dentistry in their country together with the objectives of their visit. Throughout the day they was a frank and useful exchange of views on all aspects of dental education. They were shown around the dental school and they oversaw a wide range of activities. Prof Perryer and Andrew Wright demonstrated the ecourse and the Distance learning Masters in General Dental practice. It was an action packed visit and they left with many ideas which will we hope will lead to further collaboration in the future.
