

The 32nd Annual Meeting of the Sands Cox Society took place at Birmingham Medical Institute and it is a showcase for Birmingham Dental and Medical Students to showcase their work. Krishna Patel, was the recipient of the John Rippin Dental Elective Bursary. Krishna who is a final year dental student presented her work which was entitled “To explore and compare paediatric dental health intervention in a rural and urban part of Da Nang, Vietnam”. In her presentation she provided a background to the regeneration of post war Vietnam and her experience of providing dental care in one of the outreach clinics around Da Nang. Yatisha Patel won the Sands Cox Society John Rippin Best Elective Report and as part of the prize is invited to present at the Annual Meeting. Yatisha’s presentation was “Evidence based self care strategies for dental pain and preventative oral health care advice via smartphone technology.” Yatisha is now a dental foundation dentist and has enjoyed much success with her innovative work. Both Krishna and Yatisha gave excellent presentations to the Society and the school congratulates them on their performance.
