Dear All,
I am delighted to inform you of the results of the Birmingham Dental School heat of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh Dental Skills competition which was held this evening. This national competition consists of heats held in dental schools throughout the UK with the winners of each heat going forward to the national competition in Edinburgh. The winner of the national competition will win an all expenses paid trip to the Chicago Midwinter Meeting in 2015, considered to be the biggest dental meeting in the world!
I am proud to say that the standard of work produced by our final year students was tremendous and it was difficult to split the eventual winners, however following long discussions between the three judges, the top three PFM crown preparations produced on a maxillary canine in a phantom head were by:
1st Miesha Virdi
2nd Daniel Chung
3rd Priya Chohan
All the students who were involved tonight gave of their best and produced very good quality work and I was proud of the standard produced. All of those attending from outside the school commented on what good students we had and how welcoming and friendly they were. Well done to all who were involved! I would like to thank Dentsply for supporting the event and Patrick Stewart (BUDSS chairman) and his team for helping out tonight.
We wish Miesha Virdi, who will go forward to represent Birmingham School of Dentistry in the national event (Edinburgh, March 2014), all the best of luck.
Well done to everyone for taking part and being involved.
Dr Phil Tomson
