There have been a number of retirements and we say goodbye to Professor Tony Smith and Dr Adrian Shortall both who have been with us since the 1980s.
Tony was Professor of Oral Biology and was recipient of the IADR Distinguished Scientist award. He was served as Editor of Journal of Dental Research. In the School he was responsible for Oral Biology teaching to both the Dental and BMedSci Students. He was also Director of Research taking the school through two research assessment exercises.
Adrian was Reader in Conservative Dentistry and was a well respected researcher in the area of composites and bonding to enamel and dentine. He also was in charge of Conservative Dentistry and helped make the transition in the teaching at a time of great staff change in the department during the 1990s. He was a well respected teacher and many students will remember his precision in the cutting of cavities but his kind approach. The picture was taken at a dinner held at Horton Grange to celebrate their contribution to the School.
