
Mr Upen Patel and Prof Damien Walmsley took part in an International Workshop on “A global perspective on leading change and innovation in Dental Education”
The workshop was organized by the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), in collaboration with the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) and took place at the Renaissance Barcelona Fira Hotel in Barcelona, Spain. The aim of the day was to provide a global opportunity for dental educators and practitioners to share and look for strategies on a range of topics, including curriculum change, staff/faculty development and policy change. Prof Walmsley jointly opened the meeting with Dr Lily Garcia President of ADEA and then presented on “Advancing Dental Education in Europe: Updating the Profile and Competences for the Graduating European Dentist”. He covered the leadership in providing a European overview on changing curriculum and the way forward. Mr Patel covered “Technology in Dental Education: eLearning @ Birmingham” and displayed best practice in using technology in many different ways in the curriculum. Both Damien and Upen led breakout session discussion groups on understanding new educational standards in Europe and the USA and Technology in Dental Education respectively.
