On Saturday 27th September, a day long CPD event was held at Malmaison, Birmingham. The aim of this event was to celebrate Birmingham Dental School, and some of its Alumni.

The event was well attended by 60 delegates, many of which were graduates of Birmingham University.

The day was kicked off by Anoup Nandra who introduced the speakers, and highlighted the responsibility that all the delegates have to the future of dentistry. He explained the changes that have occurred over the past 10 years and the changes that are expected to occur. Each delegate was encouraged to act as a mentor to newer graduates. Bal Nandra followed Anoup’s presentation by discussing the life of a ‘current dental student’ in the Birmingham Dental Hospital. This presentation was a welcome trip down memory lane.

Avik Dandapat provided an insight into the importance of remaining fit and healthy, particularly in the career of a dentist. Posture was discussed, as well as the need to maintain a healthy work:life balance. Neel Barchha, provided a lovely presentation on technologies and trends in dentistry. The future of technology in dentistry is astounding, and products such as ‘Google Glass’ will undoubtedly play an important role in our practicing careers.

Andrew Chandrapal, showed some excellent pictures and gave brilliant advice during his presentation titled “Composite Resin Restorations – Top Tips to raise the bar” and Preet Bhogal finished off the day with a fabulous presentation called “Orthodontic Specialist – friend or foe?”.

There was some presentations from Mel Kang (Vicarage Court Solicitors) and Richard Lishman (Money 4 Dentists) during the day also.

The lecture part of the day was followed by a drinks reception and a meal at Rajdoot Indian Resturant. In true, Brum style, everyone went out to the ‘Fleet St Kitchen’ to dance the night away!

All in all, the day was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
