It rained in the morning but then sun came out in the afternoon and made for a perfect setting for the day of the year. The white glove graduands made their way to the Great Hall at the University of Birmingham and sat expectantly for the ceremony to begin. The Ceremony, the procession and the awarding of degrees is done so well at Birmingham. The Great Hall is a splendid setting. Our first year dental student, Izzy Howson was playing the Tuba in the brass band for the ceremony.

Then with the formalities completed it was time to be happy and take photographs with the new dental graduates. Here are a few of them. Staff first.

Now for the students 🙂
Plus a picture of generations of the Reel family with Pritpal (2014), Hardeep Singh (1982) and Ishpreet (2015)

This was followed by the year photograph where the students are lined up for a photograph together.

Then with a break in tradition, the Presentation of Prizes and Awards was held at the Leonard Deacon Lecture Theatre in the Medical School. The guest of honour, Dr Janine Brooks MBE, Associate Postgraduate Dean, Thames Valley and Wessex was introduced by Professor Lumley. Then the prize giving commenced followed by an inspiring speech by Dr Brooks. Stephanie Agar, Chairperson of BUDSS proposed a vote of thanks on behalf of the students. Finally Professor Lumley gave his annual report and invited people to partake in refreshments in the foyer. Now there was a chance to relax and reflect on a memorable day.

People departed with many graduants looking forward to family get-togethers and what the future may hold for them.
