The school was visited by Dr May L Mei Post-doctoral Fellow and Honorary Assistant Professor at Hong Kong who is undertaking research at the University of Edinburgh. She took time off from her research to visit with us and give a lecture on her research. “The success of silver diammine fluoride in caries management: what’s behind it?”
Dr May was shown around the dental school and also shown the research laboratories by Professor Walmsley. Her visit shows the strong links with Hong Kong dental school which have taken place over the last few months.
Earlier this year the School of Dentistry hosted Professor Jukka Pekka Matinlinna and Dr Tian, 田恬, who were visiting from Hong Kong Dental School. They came to visit Prof Will Palin to discuss collaborative research projects between the two institutions. Whilst they were here they also took the opportunity to film material for their MOOC on Dental Materials There was an opportunity to show them around the new school and take them for dinner at the Mailbox. Dr Tian also got acquainted with the Bull at the Bull Ring. As a result of this meeting a dental student from HK spent time in Prof Palin’s research laboratories over the summer.
