Professor Deborah White joined the school after gaining her PhD in 1999 and since then has raised through the ranks to Professor in 2008. She is Director of learning and teaching and Head of dental public health at the School of Dentistry. She is a strong advocate of Women in Dentistry and has been a role model to many aspiring female students in her Professional Role. Her retirement presentation took place in the refectory of the Dental school where staff and students gathered to pay her tribute and wish her well for the future. There was lots of fun as Amy Lord had put together a video from many of the staff with good will messages for her retirement. Many from the curriculum and secretarial team were particularly funny.
Deborah has been a huge influence in the school and a search on this dental blog will bring up many of her achievements. At her presentation, Prof Lumley highlighted Deborah’s achievements and her influence on Dental Education not only at Birmingham but in the International arena as well. The students also spoke about how Deborah had influenced their careers and also her kind approach to their welfare during the course. The School of Dentistry thanks Deborah for all she has done and wishes her a long and happy retirement.
