The School of Dentistry took part in a Public engagement display called Research at the Heart of Brum. The exhibition took place on a busy Saturday in October. It was centrally placed under the departure boards in Grand Central. There were researchers from across the campus who were engaging with the public about their research. Dr Mel Grant who is the lead for “Open Wide” organised the dentistry stands and these included “Blast a Biofilm” using water pistols. Others were curing a white filling in a phantom head and make your own biofilm using different materials that looked like your regular bacteria. There were presentations not only from dentistry but across the University of Birmingham. Many members of the public took part in the activities and some of our dental students were on hand to help out as well. It was a lot of fun as the pictures show.
