Cape Town South Africa was the setting for the 2014 IADR Meeting. As soon as we got there the spectacular setting of Table Mountain gave an instant uplift in positive thoughts. Even though it was their winter, the climate was warm and sunny. Just the perfect conditions for relaxing after an intensive day of discussions and presentations at the conference. It is always said that you have to travel to the other side of the world to find out what other people in the UK are doing. And so it was the case as we met up with many researchers not only from the UK but across the world.

Birmingham put on a good show as only we know how to do it and it was so pleasing to see our young researchers either delivering oral presentations or standing by their posters enthusiastically letting people know about their research findings. I include a few pictures of the poster sessions where our students and staff were presenting.

In the evenings the V & A waterfront restaurants were full of conference delegates continuing discussions over dinner. Another successful IADR for Birmingham and many back home will be looking towards the Pan European IADR Dubrovnik meeting later in the year. I leave you with some memories of South Africa and images of Prof Walmsley hanging off Table Mountain and PhD student Binish Khatoon getting ready to hand glide.
